Which is why I got so excited on the casting and listening to Idris recite the Gunslinger Oath. He’s got the chops to give that character something really great, but obviously script committee decided to cut away so much of what makes Roland who he is, Elba had nothing to work with and did what he could.

The character was a Magical White Guy in the book. They just cast Edris Elba. I wouldn’t get too hung up on the race of the character, he was kind of an engima/blank slate/ManWithNoName type.
