That sentence is dumb, but it’s not nearly as stupid as this sentence:
No lie: I thought that was a picture of Bill Russel.
I can’t believe there are still Hinkie naysayers. THE PROCESS WORKS. We’re seeing it right NOW.
Bryan Colangelo is awful; Sam Hinkie is an angel.
No, his best skill was negotiating trades (and effectively using cap space as an asset)
If you criticize Hinkie without looking at his trade history you’re not looking at the whole picture. Trades like the one to acquire Saric were masterful.
WOW what a shit post. Educate yourself before you take such a hard stance against something.
Okafor was also a pick of circumstance. Up until about a week before the draft Minnesota was still considering him for #1. And the Lakers made it known he was in consideration for #2...so when Minny went KAT and Lakers went DLo it pretty much left the 76ers with no choice.
It feels to me like you’re holding Hinkie to a completely ridiculous standard here. Most of the picks he made were extremely reasonable at the time and frankly pretty reasonable in retrospect. You can nitpick a million things but he did a good job given the resources he had available to him. If you think he should…
This is funny, Colangelo is making a mess of everything right now and were still talking about Hinkie. Cmon people, BC tried to get too much leverage and the strategy totally fell apart and now they are in worse shape than before. Everyone can nitpick the draft picks after the fact, nobody knew Porzingis would be good…
Not that he didn’t have experience, but he was ostensibly out of basketball for 3 years. If his father wasn’t brought in as a team consultant, I don’t believe he would have been a top (slash, unchallenged) contender for the vacancy.
I think the Okafor pick was dumb, but looking back at the 2015 draft makes me understand it somewhat better. It was a weak draft, and what talent was there was all in bigs. If you take Porzingis off the table, the only other decent pick (even with hindsight) would be maybe Winslow at #10 or Booker at #13.
January was the most fun month to be a Sixers fan in a decade in a half and it took like two weeks for Colangelo’s bullshit to erode a lot of that.
He flipped MCW for great value and the Noel pick was fine. You can retroactively criticize every GM in history if you parse their draft picks for players they “missed”
Yeah some of the players drafted later turned out to be better players, but the entire theory is that no one can possibly know with any certainty whether their pick is the best value, and so the best way to guarantee success is to have as many as possible. For all the “Well, this guy got taken 5 picks later!”…
I agree the execution was lacking. But the Sixers didn’t draft MKG. Maybe you meant MCW? If so, Hinkie flipped him for the the Lakers pick. MCW is playing his way out of the league, and if he’s anything more than an 8th or 9th man on a good team, count me as surprised.
It’s kinda funny because the Process fans (myself included) would probably have given Hinkie the benefit of the doubt on this one, especially with all the goodwill engendered by Embiid’s season.
Hinkie may have gotten the Sixers into this mess, but at least he would’ve found another sucker GM to rip off in exchange for Okafor by now.
