i think communism is socialism developed sufficiently so that the state can be dispensed with.
i’m sure there’re plenty of people who could barrow the story of someone close to them, someone who had a harder situation than your mom and managed it even better than she did, who could come along and tell you to fuck off in just the same way you’re doing.
paywalled, but i have questions maybe you can answer. how many were surveyed; what was the demographic surveyed; and what were the actual questions asked, and answers given?
thanks, fingers crossed for you too.
oh, thanks!
you’re a saint if you didn’t burn that place to the ground and a hero if you did.
oh god, i hate opening presents in front of people, or watching people open their presents. such a painfully awkward moment. as a kid opening presents is the best because, i don’t know, maybe you aren’t conscious yet of the social obligation aspect of it yet, but then there’s a definite transition — i’d say at around…
my contract runs out on december first. my boss, in my experience, waits till the last minute to send me out a renewal, but, if i’m lucky, i’ll have a job lined up such that the window of time i’d have to give notice to get out of the contract would be longer than when the contract expires. i’m hoping so much that…
i feel like exchanging christmas gifts between adults is strange. is this some kind of peculiarity of mine or are there other people who think of christmas gift giving as being pretty exclusively a for kids thing?
man, i must be a stingy bastard because i think christmas gifts for children alone are enough. i would never get my boss a gift (the very idea is galling to me), and it would never, ever occur to me to get my kid’s teacher a christmas gift.
you’re right, it is actually all about you.
well it all goes back to the story of the good samaritan. the others passed by the traveler and did nothing, but it was only the good samaritan who had the decency to protect his people from even the slightest risk from the sketchy looking guy on the roadside, carting him off to be someone else’s problem.
“I understand that, at heart, this is a battle about controlling the work into the future, which isn’t entirely about money.”
the problem i have at home is i don’t know where anything is because every time i go looking for it it’s been moved from where i last found it, then i ask and my wife, because i know she knows, and she gives me that same routine of “it’s where it’s always been”, without actually telling me where it is.
yeah, you’ve got to earn that tip.
yeah, but an unmarried woman spending the night with her husband would also raise a few eyebrows, even today.
she was just mad at the world and wanted to punish everyone in it.
could be that she’s the awful one.
