"After that, it doesn't look like she did much else. She raised her children and became a volunteer."

It looks like the browser is on the Chinese Yahoo. How does that fit with the redneck stereotype?

@Akhen: The slate has an Intel Core i5 processor and runs Windows 7. That's why it's more than an iPad. You're comapring apples to salami.

This is nothing like my 17 years of experience as a software engineer. The trick? Work for companies that sell software, not companies that use software to sell other products.

The Thinkpad X201s is no longer available fro Lenovo. They had a problem with the screen supplier and now only offer the lower resolution X201. You can still find a few for sale elsewhere.

I don't understand the fuss - just buy a new battery. My three year old Thinkpad is on its second battery pack and going strong.

@Richard Servello: There's more than price - the nook is smaller than the iPad. It's something you can throw in a bag without thinking about where it fits. And if it gets stolen or broken then you're only out a few hundred bucks. In general I agree that it's not worth saving money to buy an inferior product, but at

@Lodril: I love you, whoever you are.

But is the book well written?

@teh1andonlym0: I can't see getting any serious creative work done on the mini-Air either, so essentially it's a very expensive browser. Nicer than the Dell for sure! I'm not saying I'd turn down a trade. But I'm not compelled to spend $1000. I'd prefer to see a 12" plastic MacBook for around $500.

Here in Portland, the cuddle parties were closed for a while due to body lice.

I'll stick with my $200 Dell Mini Hackintosh.

My girlfriend has a Lotus with the same QWERTY-flip form-factor and she loves it, wouldn't even trade it for an EVO. It all comes down to how you use the phone, which is, after all, just a tool.

Ray Wert has obviously confused MPG under gas operation with range under all-electric operation. For someone who commutes 10 miles to work each day and plugs in at night, MPG is close to infinity. The gas engine is a backup for longer trips. It's not very hard to understand, though this article does its best to

@Unionhawk: You're right, I did miss the sarcasm. But it's true that free software does carry some risks. I'm just not really worried about downloading free software like Tortoise SVN, 7-Zip, etc. But I'm getting them direct from the developer.

@ripfire: That depends on what kind of application you're downloading. There are a lot of free developer tools out there that do not contain viruses - but I doubt virus writers are targeting the dev community.
