I'm pretty sure text messages can be received on the iPad with iOS5 and iMessaging. The point was to bring all your iDevices together. iPod Touch will also be able to send and receive texts.

I don't think you need to flip the switch to activate it. Its got a motion so it starts recording automatically.

Probably not an iOS5 feature, but hopefully they add it in 5.1 or 5.2.
