From what I understand, Detroit has some pretty strict gun laws.

I said "Anyone who cares to learn can easily find several recent examples." And Wade, unwilling to apply even the minimal amount of effort on his own behalf and insisting on being spoon-fed instead, replies, "Alright, so educate us. Let's see some links."

"Inviting an armed rabble to come shoot off guns in a school…" Right. Because someone actually proposed that.

And yet somehow, all these stories end much the same: As soon as lots of men with guns show up, the shooters either stop shooting and surrender, or shoot themselves.

The most romantic gift I ever gave a woman was a motorcycle helmet. Cost a little less than half what the ring set in question here cost. And two weeks later, it saved her life. How often does a ring do that?

I just posted above, so won't repeat at length here, how I like when a serious message is artfully smuggled into a pure-entertainment genre film. Done badly, of course, it makes for sucky entertainment *and* sucky message-delivery. But done well, it can be much more effective at making lots of people think about

I knew the days of South African apartheid were numbered when the WWF* featured a heel called "Colonel DeBeers". When I first saw this, I thought, when the nation's white teenage boys are being taught that these guys are world-class dicks - rather than those few of us who already knew and were doing what little we

I love it when a movie from a traditionally pure-dumb-entertainment genre smuggles in a serious point, when it's done in a way that integrates the point seamlessly into the action, comedy, etc. When it's done artfully, it can get lots of people thinking about stuff differently from how they might have before, much

Would you ask Tom Petty that question?

The Rundown is the only movie I've seen with The Rock. I've stayed away from the rest, because I want to preserve my favorable opinion of him.

I think his "racially ambiguous" quality is a big part of what makes him the perfect action hero for the millennial generation. Along with his "innate affability" and general attitude toward the world and himself that fits modern sensibilities much better than action stars of yesteryear. (IMHO)

Am I the only one old enough to remember Class?

As for city-dwelling people with motorcycles - at least in my case - it's the only vehicle I have space to park. Plus I never owned a car, having moved out of the suburbs as soon as I could and into the land of public transportation. So the moto is for where public transit doesn't go or when I have to schlep stuff,

I can sympathize with the Iraqi insurgency, because whenever I see a Hummer, I want to take a shot at it.

The main features of "Obamacare" were, IIRC, originally proposed by Nixon. And rejected by the Democrats in Congress for being an enormous gift to the private insurance racket. Ah, those were the days.

@avclub-2d0cca95ad6a2061d208d765e79af478:disqus is right that Nixon was objectively to the left of not just today's GOP, but the Clinton wing of the Democrats.
But @avclub-f9e1b74986ef91100415c120c46fcd3c:disqus is right in that it was Nixon's "Southern Strategy" that started the GOP on its rightward path. Though it

Honky Tonk Women

I was looking for "What's Your Name", though maybe that should be on the more-specific "songs about shagging underaged groupies" Inventory.

It would be too easy to copy-and-paste the transgressive style of the humor, and completely miss the heart.

I'm sure gay people think the same thing about all the hetero sex that gets shoved in their faces 24-7. I'm willing to trade a little personal squick-feeling in exchange for at least a small measure of fairness. And since gay dudes are a key target audience for this sort of story ("do you like movies about
