I agree with your second point and it makes me wonder whether Katya would in fact still be around even if she hadn't been safe these past two episodes. Over on Reddit etc there seems to be plenty of "I'm team _____, but also Katya." I think there's a lot of fanbase growing to be done there.

I don't condone Alaska's behaviour tonight at all I can't help but wonder what the pressure to actually deliver every week that has been put on her must be like. People have been saying she'll win All Stars 2 since season five ended. There's a lot of anticipation there.

I went off all the Spike stuff when I rewatched the show as an adult but I still find those few moments in the earlier seasons where Joyce tries to get to know Spike very sweet because they show genuine concern for Buffy and trying to accomodate her life and relationships (however misguidedly).
