What hits are we talking about, except a possible Sarah Palin VS Hillary Clinton sketch ?

No one liked the Ryan Gosling episode more than Ryan Gosling himself…

It's refreshing to see Leslie Jones play real characters, like in the 'strippers' sketch. But I'm getting annoyed by the times she's supposed to play a character but goes back to 'Leslie Jones' mode, usually by bursting off.
During this monologue : everyone gets bullied by Chris, but Leslie won't hear of it.
JK Simmons

I don't really believe the "writers keep their good sketches for a good host" hypothesis that's thrown around from time to time. A 'Chris Hemsworth' sketch and a 'Tina and Amy' sketch are completely different beasts. Writers have to propose skits that fit with the host.

Completely agree. Not only were most of the sketches good, but I was really impressed with Hemsworth this time. He was funny, he brought something to the sketches. He considerably improved after a middling episode last season.

Also, not sure about the second one, but the first time he hits a door (during the monologue) was obviously a bit. If not, then Chris Hemsworth showed a real knack at improvisation.

All of those I recall are already fairly absurd in the first and second act. This one's tame in comparison, and all the third act craziness felt more like lazy writing…

Maybe I was spoiled by the Bong Joon-Ho movies, but I found this movie quite underwhelming, and not as crazy nor funny as it could have been. Very good scene : the morgue shenanigans. Very bad scene(s) : a completely absurd third act (one that could have worked on another, crazier movie, but not this one).

In my analogy the tyers would be SNL executives, and the tyees the cast and writers. I still have no idea where to position Lorne Michaels in that whole debacle.

Yeah, people like Sasheer or Pete are talented, but maybe not "SNL talented", in that their comedic strengths don't fit in the format. I saw some stuff that Sasheer did on Above Average before her SNL time, and it's actually pretty good, but maybe too subtle for SNL.

They did the same with Paris Hilton a decade ago. Their hands were tied last week, they couldn't be as harsh as they wanted to.

Agree on the "Bobby Moynihan is the best actor of the bunch".
Also, Vanessa Bayer's sense of comedic timing never ceases to amaze me. Of the whole cast, she's the one whose enormous potential remains untapped, even after all these years. The way she says "That was the worst moment of my entire life" in the theater

Her French was perfect by the way. Up to the pronunciation.

You'll find plenty of technical issues in the history of SNL. It's not a recent thing. I don't feel it's gotten worse during those last seasons…

Don't be too hard on yourself. Your comment is easily a C+

Thank you

They're obviously BFFs now

Actually, no (at least if you believe Wikipedia). You have to go back to Charles Barkley (of all people) hosting in 2012, to find better ratings. But still, 2012 isn't that long ago. I'm sure Trump was hoping for way better ratings than this. It's not record-breaking in the slightest.

Everyone looked miserable during the ending credits. Some hugging here and there for good measure, but other than that, wow that was dreadful…
