I think the B+ is deserved but yes, that would have been a great idea, kinda reminiscent the "Darrell's House" sketches

Recurring SNL sketches, even the beloved ones, often follow a very rigid pattern. Take Jebediah Atkinson, to name just one of this episode.
But I agree on the diminishing returns part.

There's no ripping off. It's just called a recurring sketch. It's what they do.

The whole show looked like a compilation of "ten-to-oners". Absolutely awesome. Even the CNN sketch nailed the slow descent into weirdness.
Also, that Neurotology skit was disturbing and terrific.
