If we narrow down to the representation of sexual identities, they should all be treated respectfully. You can have a satirical movie about, say, the gay community, but if its focus is the very fact that these people are gay, it becomes really problematic. But satirizing some idiosyncrasies of the gay way of life…
Not respectful in the sense of "all trans characters must be good guys", but respectful as in "I won't make a mockery of your sexual identity".
With that definition, yes, I pretty much expect movies to be respectful.
Cis actors don't know their experience, but it's the job of an actor to pretend. I liked Leto in Dallas Buyer's Club, but I never thought "wow, that guy knows what it's like to be trans".
