I didn’t know it would become available as a pure EV. Thanks for the update.

Stellantis is selling loads of compact, cheap (for EV) and competitive EVs as well. Just not in the US. Peugeot, Citroen and Opel have multiple EV offerings that sell well. Better than the Leaf, at least in my observation.

If I read the quote correctly, the CEO complains that electric cars are 50% more expensive to produce than similar ICE cars, so when 100% of new cars are electric, new cars will be out of reach for many of the middle class new-car-buyers of today.

Exactly. I’m not sure why Stellantis isn’t bringing more of their already existing EVs to the US. Maybe due to lack of demand. The fact remains that they do have market-ready EVs, quite a lot even.

I’ll give you a proverbial hand:

Stellantis and Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance should merge. Nissan has electric capabilities for small and mid-size cars

I understand. Still though, my point is that Stellantis does have market-ready EV technology available. The costly emissions testing hurdle for the US is gone too, with EVs.

The Opel cars in those pictures replaced GM designs that were actually available in the US as Buicks (Encore and Verano). PSA bought Opel from GM a few years ago.

Kind of depends on the market though.

In Europe (well, EU), the standard for new 2021 cars/SUVs is 95 grams of CO2 per km as a fleet average (153 g/mile). This translates to 57 MPG (US gallons), as a fleet average. Manufactures exceeding this fleet average pay a fine per gram per car. In the US, as you’ve shown, it was 25.4 MPG for 2020.

Oh I know Americans will think of a car. Losing the historical connotation after 80 years is maybe somewhat understandable when you’re on a different continent, but in the 1960s it was only 20 years later. In the 1960s there were a lot of not-old American men around who actually fought the SS all over Europe and

When I see SS, I read it as ᛋᛋ , short for SchutzStaffel. Basically Hitler’s paramilitary organisation who were, among other topics, responsible for the holocaust. The archetype nazis. It’s a reason why you can’t even have the SS letter combination on a license plate here, to this day. It’s odd to me they named a car

Exactly. The Alpine is very pretty, unlike 99% of new cars. New cars tend to be over designed charicatures and/or styled like agricultural equipment.

Just find yourself a job in the EU. Should be enough.

I’d argue cameras do prevent these events. Not all of them, but many. When you get your first ticket in the mail, you get annoyed. Especially if you also get a second. I don’t know about you, but I’d be more careful to prevent further tickets.

Isn’t Indiana a red state.

Had this been the intent, the Jag should have accelerated leisurely after the incident and then practice an emergency stop.

They should simply install cameras. Everyone who blows a red light gets an automated ticket in the mail. It will solve the issue quite rapidly.

“Unless you’re on the track, why even bother with an automatic sports car? Just get an EV.”

Thanks for the heads up!
