Gotta love the fans with the giant ladder setting up shop in the tree.

The quads didn’t run day 8 either.

The routes overlap for most of the event, but they’ll send the different categories different directions in certain areas based on terrain and vehicle capability.

Not really. The different categories run different routes and distances.

The different categories in Dakar run different (but overlapping) routes covering differing distances, so a single overall winner really can’t be determined. That’s even more true this year with the bikes and quads not competing on stage 8 while the cars, trucks, and SSVs did.

SSVs ran one more day than the bikes due to the fatal crash on stage 7. I’d wager if a mile-for-mile calculation was done they were faster than the bikes

This sums it up for me. The Saudi regime can GTFAC (that acronym has probably never been more apt), but man the scenery was incredible

It should also be pointed out that Casey in the SSV class had one more day of racing than Ricky. On day 8 after Goncalves’s fatal crash the bikes and quads were given a day off to mourn. The cars, trucks, and SSVs all raced that day though. This is part of why there’s a disparity in finish times, and an example of why

I think it was one of the crew members from the truck running to lend a hand to to buggy

You’re absolutely right, you can see his throttle and brake rings on the steering wheel

I wouldn’t sweat this one honestly. If you’re driving in Nevada you’re either in Vegas, most of which is so hectic your attention really should be 100% on the road not divided between the road and that Big Mac, you’re in one of the desolate areas where no cop is around to notice, or you’re in Reno in which case you've

I do rally, it’s all about the flow.

Having cumulatively spent minutes and over half a mile in distance airborne in cars legally, “safely” and with very low risk of vehicular damage (only one had a negative result), I can't deny much of the thrill is gone for the smaller jumps. Most below 50 feet are forgotten as soon as they've happened. Big hucks

The challenge with any McRae film would be dealing with how he died

Using left foot braking doesn’t mean only using left foot braking. If you watch the video you’ll see him alternate which foot he’s using depending on the situation.

Your average driver who’s forgotten the rules they memorized for their driving test 6 weeks after they took it isn’t going to have the coordination or awareness to do this properly.

The boots are because he works at the rally school and portions of that place are muddy as shit 24/7/365

Rivals, but also best friends

For me it was 2016/2017 that really turned things around for Tanak. 2016 he very nearly took his first career win, then the next year teamed up with Ogier at M-Sport he scored multiple victories (3 I think). M-Sport was desperate to keep him for 2018 after that breakout performance, but with Ford providing little in
