5, the other three retired, and 4 of the 5 were Ramchargers (the odd one out was a Datsun Bluebird Turbo. But, in defense of the Ramchargers, of 26 entrants total they finished ninth and tenth overall, which isn’t too shabby.

Only the first line of your comment showed up in my notifications at first, and as a 5-speed owner I was like “wait, what?”

Forester XT but not Outback XT?

In my case I wanted something that was quick and fun, but could also handle rough rally stages and get me to remote campsites. This ticked all the boxes

It’s less raise and more bloat. The current Outback is actually pretty close in size to the last “cool” Outback (4 inches taller, 1 inch longer, 2 inches wider), but the styling just makes it FEEL so much bigger.

Can confirm

Pretty sure you’re right

Most US/Canadian rallies actually don’t allow rally studs. Most are either DOT studs or (as in the case of Sno*Drift Rally in Michigan and, last I knew, Perce Neige, the rally the video is from) no studs allowed at all.

And a reminder that it could be had with extra off road

I have a third gen XT (2008), and after bad injectors at 135k it’s been pretty solid despite having a hard life. I’ve had to replace a clutch, the steering rack, the radiator, and a few axles since then, but that’s largely it and I’m now at 205k

IMO as an Outback owner, they need to make it look/feel more like a wagon and less like a crossover. The first three generations were distinctly wagon, but the line became fuzzier with the fourth gen, and that for me is when they stopped being cool. I’d love to see a manual paired with that turbo motor as well, but

They were being rallied in the late 60's, yes, but that stopped with the introduction of the MkIII, and they weren’t really used again until the MkV.

He don’t know, so he chases them away

Just to add a bit, cars aren’t supposed to be helped through controls. So while a car could be towed on a transit or even down a stage, according to the rules they’d have to unhook just before the yellow boards and push it to the control.

Successor from a rally perspective (specifically Group A rallying), not overall model timeline.

Dammit I almost fell for this. Have a star.

Even though they’re faster than they’ve ever been.

It’s called “ditch-hooking,” and rally drivers have been doing it about as long as there’s been stage rally
