As far as I know, the only difference in the distance of the eggs is the amount of candy they come with when they hatch. I don’t think it affects the rarity of the pokemon contained within, just a 10km will yield more candy than a 2km. So, a 10km magikarp will help you on your way to getting Gyrados faster.
