Yes, at least here in Charlotte, NC you get Crabbies and other alcohokic ginger ales (beers) and also alcoholic root beers in the grocery stores.

Not sure which Germany you went to, but the Germany I grew up in has a lot diversity in beer and the only “heavy regulation” is, that it should not contain anything but water, hops and malt. You can add other stuff, but then you are not allowed to call it beer.
