Pretty sure someone already replied to a similar comment up above but just to be clear, Bluegrass predates the Blues and is originally derived from Irish, Scottish, and English songs. Modern bluegrass is heavily influenced by black musicians as is almost every other modern American music genre.

I hope you understand that bluegrass was an irish/scottish/english tradition that settlers embellished upon. of course later it was influenced by african american music (like literally every genera) but to say it wouldnt exist without that influence is hyperbolic and untrue.

Bluegrass would exist (and did) prior to the undeniable influence of gospel and other black american music styles, though - like pretty much all american music - it was influenced by black american music in its development to our modern sense of it.
