Hmmm I don't know about Jon being smart, or at least a wise commander. When shit started getting weird at Hardhome Jon should have beaten a hasty retreat with his Night's Watch brothers, not tried to be a gallant hero trying to save kids. Sure dragonglass is useful but they were being swarmed.

I was terrified of Wun Wun becoming an ice zombie so actually quite relieved with his exit. How they'll move his body to burn I don't know. I now have a grisly image of them having to chop him up in the Winterfell courtyard.

He was a pretty simple chap unused to the world. The wights at Hardhome freaked him out massively and same with a spear wall.

I hope she gets some strong wildling women. People will want to live on an island if the WWs can't cross open water.

Agree on direction >>> writing this episode. I'd love to see a script to find out what came from D&D and what from the director. Sapochnik said Jon's suffocating was due to poor weather preventing them doing what they had planned.

I think so, possibly a Mormont soldier as Jon picked up a shield at Winterfell.

I've been wondering how people will take on the dragons. If those ships had co-ordinated their fiery missile throwing they could have hit the dragons so Euron might be a threat to her next season. Maybe he'll show up next episode to pick on Sam in Old Town.

No she won't. The Brotherhood are already doing revenging on Freys and I think Arya's going to take her storyline.

Westeros doesn't really want her either but she might as well try it I guess. Plenty of shit for her dragons to burn.

True, Ramsay really only cared about taking out Jon. He would have exhausted his troops just to play a game with Sansa. Joffrey would have done the same, poor girl.

I agree. He's good in a fight against a dozen wildlings but he got appointed to strategise the battle just because he's supposedly a great commander (even though it was slim pickings amongst the Night's Watch and he wasn't a good LC at all). It was Sansa's idea to retake the North and then Jon and Davos took control

I had the same thought about the banners. I like the idea that a few Stark loyalists among the household staff hid the banners. It really was awesome to see.

Jon is not the battle commander to tell though. He has too much emotion and honour/pride. He's great at fighting wildlings and wights but ruthless, conniving strategists? No, he doesn't understand them.

Nah, Sansa made the right call. The only way to take back Winterfell was to draw Ramsay's forces away from the castle into what he thought was an easy fight. Jon wouldn't have been willing to sacrifice his wildling friends to trap an enemy. He also probably wouldn't have worked well with Littlefinger, assuming Jon

Excellent episode! So tense all the way through. RIP Rickon, may ye rest in peace alongside Shaggydog and Osha. Also RIP to Wun Wun. Glad he didn't become an ice zombie giant.

Jon might have rejected Littlefinger's assistance out of a sense of honour (or serious mistrust), even if Sansa pitched it to him as their cousin's army at their command.

Same thing with Arya running into the Twins after she saw the Red Wedding start - hard to abandon a close family member to death.

Maybe Littlefinger approached where she was camped first and picked he up on the way to the main battle.

You saw that this episode when Ramsay fired arrows into the fighting where his own cavalry were, which Jon would never do (nor Davos). Tywin Lannister would probably do the same as Ramsay but Robb would never.

Especially when he's been telling the congregation it's their fault the world is going to shit.
