Thank you for thinking and typing this, I don’t get the whole doom and gloom view this site has. It’s honestly a high point for gaming (just part of a upwards trend, not anything special). People have machines faster than PS2s in their pockets, you can get data in the middle of nowhere, internet is faster than ever

The money conversation is one that people desperately need to have. So many gamers seem to lose a good 50 IQ points when money enters the picture.

As somebody who mostly plays indie and Japanese-made games, I’ve been almost entirely insulated from the whole “dearth of single player experiences” that’s being described in the article. It was interesting to read about, and I’ll count myself lucky that I’m not invested in EA, Activision, or Ubisoft are and aren’t

Honestly I wondered how wise the undetachable joycons would be but I see the colors design and ultimately I’d see that’s the market right there that the 2DS tried to cater to.

Specifically: “already has gaming consoles.... but have kids now of school age about to enter the rought and tumble of school life who’d like to

Remember ten years ago when people were absolutely enraged that a game might have an “always online” requirement?

PIN number...

If you control an NPC, then it becomes playable. How is it an NPC anymore?...

Is it the D&D license?

That would be WayForward

The ads went a long way to establish a douchey reputation. Seriously, they were extremely irritating.

I’m not sure how this would work. There are plenty of games that offer play to win that aren’t multiplayer, which feels like it should be fine. For instance, in the Tales series games you can often buy things like double experience or an item pack or whatever that just makes the game easier. Some people really like

The bill does not refer to game ratings such as E or T and instead defines the targeted games as those “for which the target audience is individuals under the age of 18.”

I hate loot boxes and all but this looks like it needs to be revised and be further specific.

Pretty sure they just pushed a music fix for 7 on Switch. For some reason no 9 too and not on Xbox.

Here’s the particular exchange that worries me:

One of the games that’s in active deployment at my company is a F2P loot box style game. Been running for years now and still doing well despite being older. The vast majority of our player base is in the late 20s-30s range. I mean, kids *do* play our game, because of course they do, but the game certainly isn’t made

Let’s be clear, Hawley is an evil man with a terrible idea.  Though, neither of those things are dependent on the other.

Thanks, Jason. It is interesting to see this hit so close to home. I’m in Kansas City, and Hawley is well known on this side of the border.

While I agree loot boxes have become predatory and out of control, I don’t want other government officials smelling the blood in the water if this ends up going through.

Oh God, fuck this. I have my misgivings about it too, but I am so done with entitled dipshit fans like these.
