To an increashingly diminishing library of content full of crap that will then evaporate further as more players collapse that market, make it convoluted and expand to force you to pay for a dozen different subscriptions just to watch six different popular shows.

Shelf space doesn’t make my games vanish into thin air when I run out of room, man. You’re stretching the comparisons for the sake of the “it’s not that big of a deal” take and it’s not quite working.

I mean, it’s actually pretty damn serious for the industry. From that standpoint it may be the most serious thing happening in games right now.

As I’ve said elsehwere, we’ve had demos for a long time and they used to be free.

I got gud at N64 controller usage once and I had to bandage my hand for a week.

Absolutely not the same thing I’d do if I bought the game. If I bought the game I’d maybe play some of it now, if something else comes around or I get bored I’d put it aside and then maybe in a couple of years when I’m bored maybe I’d look at it sitting on my library and go “oh yeah, I could get back into that”. Or,

But it’s not a rental service. I hate that comparison. In a rental service you go in and you pick up what you want when you want for a limited time. And because the shop trades in physical video tapes on way or the other if you want to buy it instead they’ll probably sell it to you.

I mean, as a counterpoint... no?

No, that’s you not getting the game at the cheapest you could have, but the game is... you know, still there. You can still play it.

I tried paying it with a controller and it was super laggy for me. I wasn’t on a super powerful PC at the time, but it was solid enough that it should have run it fast, and in fact I was getting flat 60 fps.

No, I meant what I said.

It really isn’t that much energy. This took like five seconds to type. I would actually even do something about it in the physical world, even, which is exponentially more tiring, trust me.

Yep. It sucks.

It’s not that I don’t like renting things. I used to rent games, like everyone else, back when they were offered alongside movies.

It bombed over here, for sure.

Wait, wasn’t this already known? I feel like I’ve been hearing rumors for a while of a script with that premise floating around alongside the concept of a Halo movie where you don’t follow MC, you follow someone else and he just pops up to save the day here and there.

I mean, yeah, I keep responding to the same points made over and over with the same counterpoint over and over.

Yeah, it certainly reviewed well at the time, but it was the 90s, I’m not sure how much stock I’d put into that. Critics were giving Q3 crap the next year for not having a campaign and everybody was playing Quake 3 until CS took over.

We bash it because it’s not good! It was barely a blip at the time over here and nobody paid attention to it (Turok got more play, FFS, and Turok suuucks). Every time the US press acts like it’s an all time classic I feel like I’m in a parallel universe.
