God damn it. I come here every day thinking that manual transmissions, analog gauges and hydraulic steering are still preferable for jalops, but I may just be turning into an old.
Yes it does. My 1er has a way more usable backseat by adults vs. my 911.
Yep, it is in a 1er (not been in a 2er,) especially compared to a 911 or something like an Audi TT.
I’ve not driven the 1M (I own a 135i,) but every review of the 1M that I’ve read says there’s simply an intangible goodness about this Skunkworks BMW. Chris Harris even bought a 1M:
The Cayman has more storage space than one would expect, but it’s no 1er in that regard.
I’m simply saying, having owned both, 1ers have noticeably more people and luggage space. That’s the entire point of the things vs. a (two-door) Porsche.
Hardly. Just drove around all weekend with my friend in the passenger seat and his wife and the back (with luggage in the trunk,) and she said it was comfortable. No complaints. It’s worlds better than my 911 was in this regard.
I happen to have the largest 6 year old at his school, but, yeah, he fits in a 911. I’m talking about actual adults, which the 1 series can accommodate with luggage. The backseat of a 1er is much more usable than a 911, and it’s the main (only?) reason to choose a BMW over a Porsche.
Seriously? I just drove around with three adults and luggage all weekend without issue. Is the 2 series backseat smaller than the 1 series? Or have people around here gotten too used to big cars? There’s a big difference between a 1 series and a Porsche 911 backseat.
I don’t know. After coming from a 911, I missed a sunroof in my Cayman, and I rarely close the thing in my 1er. Plus, I use a rack all the time.
Or just buy one of the zillions of 135i N55 M-Sport cars out there and add PPK2, which makes it the same car. I’d personally just add the PPK1 tune, since the Performance exhaust of the 135is drones a bit, and the stock 135i exhaust is fine.
Not me. My wife has an SUV, but I hate driving them (I bought an X3 and sold it.) I’m the kind of person who used to take my 911 and Cayman camping, snowboarding, etc. If I’m driving, I’m driving a fun car with a manual, and I’ve no interest in a big, 4-door Porsche. Not fun. The BMW 1 series is very fun, but…
Yes. I drove around all weekend with my 6' friend in the passenger seat and his 5'6" wife in the back without issue, and their luggage was in the trunk. My 6 year old barely fits in my old 911.
There isn’t a Porsche with two doors and a usable backseat. Signed, former 911 and Cayman owner.
Probably. I own a 2012 135i, which is essentially the “is” without PPK and performance exhaust (which are easy to buy,) and I’d rather have a 1M, but the price difference wasn’t worth it to me, since I spend most of my time driving on the street.
Having owned both a 996 and a 987, the reason to buy the BMW is the same as it was 30 years ago: a usable backseat and trunk. Of course, if those don’t matter, a Porsche is usually the right decision...although the creaky 996 interior is probably the worst of all 911s.
Yeah, apparently new tires and replacing the rear subframe bushings (which compensate for the run flats) goes a long way. I just got the car, and it came with brand new Pirellis run-flats, so I think I’m going to take it to some track days to burn the tires down asap, and then I’ll replace them.
