Jesus Christ man

Time and time again Tesla is able to leverage it’s influence over its customer to have them do development work for them, for free. It’s brilliant.

I love that they are trying to prove that they can pay attention entirely so they can get in a car and pretend they don’t need to pay attention.

It’s like the ultimate in ironic hypermiling. You drive as smoothly as possible with no consideration for the drivers around you, but you don’t actually do it to go anywhere therefore making it an even bigger waste of resources.

This is like the electrified version of rolling coal.

95% is terrible.

If it wasn’t racially motivated, why did they have guns drawn for an unarmed alleged squatter?

That’s exactly my thought too.

Man, I’ve been rooting for Rivian to succeed ever since I heard about them, but this is a pretty sour note.

And hopefully get rid of the SIM module so Rivian can’t get back into it.

Yeah, a big, resolute “no” from me. I mean, I have a hard time paying Microsoft for Office 365 (but at least it gives me the entire suite PLUS a ton of storage and access to other MS stuff), but for my car? If I’m paying a subscription, I may as well lease the thing.

SUVs outsell minivans because many, many people will simply never buy the latter but want some space for kids and gear.

Electric cars are inherently Communist. If Ford wants to be politically neutral, then the solution is easy: it should simply ensure that 5-6 US gallons of gas are burned in a barrel in the desert for every 100 miles travelled by an electric F150. I’m sure telemetrics could keep track of all of this.

I’m not a pilot but I’ve “flown” a plane. The pilot let me be at the controls and keeping the plane straight and level in fair weather is no big deal. That means I could “fly” the plane clear across the United States—95% of the flying involved.

Driving “hands free” while paying attention to take over when the Ultra Cruise bricks sounds exhausting.  I’ll stick with good old carbon cruise.

I know 95% is an impressive technical achievement, but that needs to be higher.  Let us consider another statement, and tell me how comfortable you would be:  “95% of the air around you contains no bullets headed in your direction”.

Don’t ever change, Torch.

Ultra Cruise? Boring.

When a driver is required to be ready to take over control for only 5% of situations, what are the odds that they will actually be ready to do so at a moment’s notice and react in a measured and appropriate manner?

Or the Suburban in the next lane whose driver just dumped a scalding hot coffee on his junk while trying to send a text message.

While “a moose walks into the road” may seem like a niche test case for many American drivers, it’s an important circumstance to consider in colder climates.”

It really has nothing to do with cold climates. Substitute a moose with a kid chasing a ball or on a skateboard etc. and this is relevant to everyone.
