Physics doesn't work like that. Kinetic energy is m*v^2, so the energy involved in a crash rises exponentially, not linearly. That 13% reduction in speed is a nearly 25% reduction in kinetic energy. Plus there is the airborn threshold that others have mentioned.
I have a degree in Physics and 50+ years experience. Thus I know bullshit when I smell it. Come back when you understand what geological time is and can stop comparing that to a few decades. Until then, you are irrelevant. Also learn how to form the plurals of nouns.
Tesla opened their patents or whatever, wouldn’t that give similar companies to Faraday a boost?
You forgot to mention the ad was paid for by the Russian ministry of defense/tourism.
As I read of all of the shady dealings and of things like Republican leaders going to the Koch brothers personally, to seek advice on how to run our government, I suddenly thought: “Yeah, well, what kind of crazy blog is spouting this stuff? Oh, the New York Times? I stand corrected.”
Gas-powered cars are only as “clean” as their primary source of energy, which is always oil. With EVs, the worst you can do is 100% coal, which is still cleaner and more efficient than gas-powered cars, but also has the option of being powered from natural gas, nuclear, solar, wind, hydro-electric.
Actually no it is not - not in the time frame of the current activity.
Just need another fifty years of studying it, right?
And I never disagreed that they're powered by fossil fuels. I'm simply saying that it's a stupid argument. They're not just powered by fossil fuels. They're powered by fossil fuel sources that operate at substantially higher efficiency than gas cars resulting in a huge decrease in the carbon footprint.
You’re oversimplifying for your own warm-and-fuzzies. Methane produces less carbon emissions on a per BTU level, but methane itself is a huge contributor to global warming (about 25x as bad as CO2). And yes, natural gas does leak for natural reasons, but that’s separate of the industry. The 4% I’m quoting is what the…
Compared to the amount of emissions currently put into the air by ICE powered vehicles. And for the record, natural gas is only cleaner if you don't leak any of it. If there is as little as 4% leakage in the entire extraction/transportation/use line, it actually impacts the atmosphere more than traditional gas…
While not true for your typical Tesla owners, non-Tesla EV / hybrid owners tend to be of the environmental conservationist breed. The plug in EV/hybrid folks I know also have solar panels generating electricity, which means their car is not always being charged using hydrocarbon based fuels. As the cost of those…
Even an old coal power plant is usually running north of 50% thermodynamic efficiency, but the newest ones make 60%+ efficiency. Compare that to even those most modern ICE that will be lucky to get above 25% efficiency. Even without a green energy infrastructure, you could still half the emissions put into the air.
This is true, but the ICE in your car is much less efficient and has much less emissions control tech than a fossil fuel fired power plant. Electric cars are still big winners emissions wise even when you consider the source of their electricity.
Musk is right, the public health cost of fossil fuels is staggering:
Clearly
I can’t watch the video you posted without immediately thinking about this:
You win! :D
