I had a 1972 P1800E years ago. Cool looking,.. but pretty uninspiring to drive. (and I had built the engine with over-bore pistons, an IPD cam, lifters and header, installed IPD sway-bars, KYB sport shocks etc, etc. And it was still pretty lame to drive.

They ARE good,.. but they weren’t for the first 2 years when McLaren insisted Honda make the engine in a way Honda didn’t think they could pull off. Things were bad as Honda predicted. Then Honda got to do a re-boot with Toro Rosso and then Red Bull, and they’ve been solid and improving ever since.

I have always done it the opposite way,... valve stem at the top. So when the wheels are lined up with all crests upright (requires jacking the car and rotating the wheels by hand),... the valve stems are not visible from a standing position.
