If you buy on GDAX with ACH, you can lock in the price and start buying before the ACH clears. You can’t sell or transfer until ACH clears either.

ACH transfers lock you into current price at that time, at least on GDAX. Once you initiate an ACH buy, you can already buy bitcoin/eth/ltc that same moment, but cannot sell until ACH is complete (3-5days).
