Not...really? Egon’s knowledge of nuclear physics alone is staggering and Ray, at a minimum, was at least lab assistant to Egon in turning the theoretical into practical. Venkman is a con man, sure, but he does also have a Ph.D in Psychology (not just Para-Pyschology).

As someone pointed out above, a lot of these movies are improvised so the odds are good that a huge percentage of her lines were created by her, rather than written to adhere to some stereotype. I also would argue that classifying the Ghostbusters as true “scientists” is kind of a stretch. Does anyone remember the original? They were mostly hacks with no real, useful scientific knowledge who were looking into clearly fake phenomena until a real ghost unexpectedly landed in their laps.

Yeah, not a huge fan of how the tenor of the criticism is that scientists are inherently more interesting and useful characters than an MTA worker. Like there’s simply no way Jones could be an equal to scientists if she’s a mere civil servant.

I can assure you Gawker will keep reviving the corpse of Ghostbusters outrage whenever it’s convenient.

So long as Leslie doesn’t get marginalized the way Ernie Hudson was in the original, then this is fine.
