Ugh... if I have to start hearing mechanics ask me if I’ve rebooted my car first, in the future, I’ll just give up.

There’s enough room for all of us here folks. I love economy of design maximizing efficiencies but there’s something special (and quintessentially American) about defying physics through sheer brute force.

Lot’s of people in the comments seem to be assuming that the breaks were worn or faulty. Is there any information about whether that was the case or if it was a circumstance of brake fade / failure?

Brake fade at high altitudes doesn’t happen due to faulty equipment. It’s a naturally progressing failure that occurs because of the inherent nature of frictional force. I’m curious if the use of jake-brakes are legal in this area, if not they should probably revisit that.

I’d prefer NOT to have to pay 100k for a mid-range sedan thanks.

It’s not hard.  It’s just ineffective in this context compared to the benefits of a built-in voice chat.

The notion of even a passive-type of judgement scares all the children from participating. 

Disagree, that same + few-5 second delay on ‘suicide’ could cause a HUUUGE swing if someone accidentally falls. I’d rather lose to an intentional strategy then an arbitrary penalty because somebody made a mistep.

I ALWAYS brake-check before heading out of the neighborhood in winter weather.  You can’t really be certain of road condition just based on visuals and knowing if you get grip or instant chatter with aggressive breaking is super helpful.
