Honestly that’s about how I figured it. IIRC there are a couple of House members that deployed with the National Guard in Iraq while in the House, so it’s not entirely without real world precedent. Just unusual for actual combat deployments instead of JAG or such.

If Whitmore flew—a fighter pilot, not a JAG like most who go military-to-politics these days—in the Gulf War...in early 1991...he would almost literally have had to climbed out of the cockpit from his final sortie in front of a microphone to announce his run in 1992.

There are two groups of people: Folks who already know that and don’t need to be told, and folks who will never get it so there’s no point telling them. ;)

It’s a known limitation of the current state of AI—they don’t handle context as well as people do, yet. It’s part of the same thing that limits how well they do sharing the road with human-piloted vehicles.
