I don’t agree that everyone should join a Union. There pros and cons, just like everything else. In some cases, the cons far outweigh the pros and are more. But, I believe everyone should have the option.

On the other hand, in a conservative state without a state employee union, wages gets stomped into the ground because the legislature is completely unwilling to create a reasonable budget, and state employees have no recourse.

This is only true of people in the same job category. But honestly - how often is someone with 1 yr experience in a job better than someone with 5? It’s very rare. And if folks are super talented and management wants to keep them or pay them more- they can be promoted or moved to other positions.

I like my job just fine, today. As mentioned in another comment, I negotiated well for myself and things are okay for now. But all signs point to a rockier future.

I disagree there. Government employee unions are also necessary, as many state governments are paying absolute garbage to employees following the elimination of their unions.

Even within my union I negotiate to receive better. I’m not just sitting idly by while others make those decisions for me. The collective bargaining is to protect workers who are skilled at their craft who may not be good at negotiating and to stop people in positions of power from exploiting their employees.
