Yeah his behavior is pretty much like any other rock star. Except he has relationships with adult women instead of fucking his underaged groupies.

I don't know what his choice of samples has to do with how much effort he puts into performances but he sampled Can on the same album.
Even if he just stuck with sampling classic r&b/soul like his first 2 albums there's nothing wrong with that. That's some of the greatest music around.
I usually don't read the bylines before the article but I almost always reach a point in a Sean O'Neil article where I know he wrote it. That part was where I knew he wrote this one.

And that's the opposite of separating the art from the artist.
Ok, so what terrible things did he say/do near the end of his life?
It's definitely not where it used to be, but he can still sing. He sounds good on The Like in I Love You from his 2010 Gershwin album: https://www.youtube.com/wat…
Brian Wilson can still make some good music, but I'd like to see someone who could collaborate with him and *really* bring out his strengths and dissuade him from his weaknesses. Like someone who could have convinced him to ditch the autotune on the last Beach Boys record and do what he could with his natural voice.
I…
Maybe Elvis Costello could do something with him. Shane MacGowan sounded his best on Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash.
Public Enemy have done good stuff recently though. Most Of My Heroes Still Don't Appear On No Stamp was a really good album.
I'd put John Lennon with Alex Chilton as assholes who mellowed out in their later years and turned into cool dudes.
You think the princess is in one castle… but she in another.
