I have a 2015 JGC and can see how this occurred. The shifter is easy to use but if you are not paying attention, you can most certainly put the car in reverse or neutral and not realize it.

It sucks if that was the case. I never liked the new shifters in the FCA cars. They were trying to be too high tech with them I think. On the other hand, why was this so confusing and recalled and BMW has been making a shift lever for the past few years that’s even more confusing.

Maybe. That is one possible reason. It could also just have been a dumb mistake. One of my friends has left his car in neutral on accident on more than one occasion which ended with his vehicle rolling into a ditch on all of those occasions. For him, he was lucky nobody was walking behind it.
