"At the peak of tulip mania in February 1637, some single tulip bulbs sold for more than 10 times the annual income of a skilled craftsman."

Kudos on the illustration!

@mangonights: I work for a county public library system. Since the economic bubble burst, our traffic has increased dramatically. You may be well-off with your job, your computer and your (assumedly) broadband connection, but we serve a lot of people who don't have computers at home and don't have access to the

Rachel Maddow did a nice piece on this. I can't believe the state of "journalism" (or rather, media news entertainment) in this country. Thank goodness there's still real news on BBC-America.

I am disappointed by the comparison to District 9. Coming from South Africa and dealing with issues of racism and apartheid, and the commitment of one man trying to make a difference, District 9 had another whole level of meaning and social relevance not found in most SF. This looks like just another special

I wonder what effect "Tron Legacy" will have on this "trend."

@zelannii: Just in support of what zelannii said, I have a friend who works for Illumination (producer of "Despicable Me") and she tells me finding 3D screens for a summer release was a major problem, having to compete with "Toy Story 3" and "Airbender" at the same time.

Make it free and come out with an iTunes app for Android and I'd be happy.

@antpwny: The coincidence of this rumor with the rumor that Verizon (who currently has no data caps for smartphones) will be getting the iPhone in January does look interesting, doesn't it?

@Channan: It's called "recursion."

(oops - my comment went on the gallery page, so I'm reposting it here)

The main image immediately made me think Gaston Lachaise. An archetypal fertility goddess for the 21st Century.

Reminds me of the World Trade Center towers collapsing on 9/11. Creepy resonances there...

19th Century, meet 21st Century.

Also, FWIW, if you want to learn how to tie a one-handed bowline, rent "Sometimes a Great Notion" and watch Paul Newman in the river-rising scene.
