Hasn’t this show taught you not to root for specific characters a million times? This is a show that must be watched without bias, your best bet it to just root for chaos and sit back and enjoy the ride.
And then, a horse.
Dany burns Varys.
Then Tyrion will “underestimate his opponents” and get promptly killed.
You know what? I was kind of OK with it up until that fucking white horse.
Honestly the worst part was Jaime not killing Cersei. Ruined his whole character arc.
I know they’ve been building it, but the way Dany’s “madness” came about just didn’t quite work for me. Still, so many epic moments and the spectacle was insane. I loved it, but I can see why some fans will not. I think this will end up being one of the most divisive episodes of the whole series.
The one thing I’ve noticed about comments and such is that there was really no way to satisfy a great many with any ending to this episode. On the one hand, last week, everyone was upset Dany didn’t just go after them with her dragon. This week she does and it’s too easy and too monstrous. That was always the point.…
It is payoff time, and there was no payoff, no mask, no sleek killing, no putting things to rights, just a lot of running in the streets (which did look great). We watched eight years of her growing up to the ugliness of the world; I did not need more of that at this point.
The horror of the episode was extremely well-executed, and I think that the madness of Dany has been earned, but I don’t get how all the northmen and Dothraki suddenly turn into women and children killers. Makes no sense at all. Cleganebowl also seemed forced. I do love using Arya as the audience surrogate once again.
This episode played out like a full-blown horror movie, and it scared me something fierce, it did. Cheers.
