That's a nice thing to say, but you're still trying to erase what Neil intended Ellie's identity to be. In that scene, it was pretty obvious that Ellie was only using the magazine to make Joel as uncomfortable as possible, if she was actually interested in its content's she would have kept the magazine hidden in her
