Seriously, thank you. I had no interest in the film until reading the comment you're responding to. If that's seriously the best case to be made for its offensive sexism, that makes me want to trust the filmmakers a lot more than I did a minute ago. Any negative review that says physical rape — a real thing that

Yeah, don't put the stigma of mental illness on James Holmes! I haven't heard any reports or proof of him having mental health issues (beyond shooting a bunch of people), or using drugs (besides the incredible amount of Vicodin they found in his system). How dare you?

I know! It's almost like he was a sad, crazy person with no rational reasons for what he did! Gosh, can you imagine if that was all there was to it, and the rest of this was just desperation to have something to say?

No, it's about you telling us our reasons. Much more socially responsible. And deep!

That's interesting, and your feelings are certainly valid, but indicting the entire country and telling us how we ought to feel is exactly the kind of hysterical blogger entitlement and overblown, low-stakes cultural proclamations that people have come to expect from Jezebel.

Plenty of people are. It's very good.

You know what's ironic? A thousand people saying the exact same thing about how unoriginal remakes are, practically verbatim, every time anybody even says the word "remake."

That's very true.

I agree. And would say further that space exploration doesn't really benefit "everyone" so much as it would be really cool for everyone. It's not really the most important thing on our global plate at the moment. Part of making the next big leap is earning it.

You are 100% right about that.

I agree with the concept, if not the content, of that quote. But I mean, NASA started as an exercise in American exceptionalism. So there's that. (Not to mention the first-world privilege inherent in equating things like running water and working electricity with complaining because you don't have free wi-fi.) And

It'll always be cool to people like this. If you're so jealous of somebody that you have to make a video about how stupid they are, you've kinda already shown your cards.

Not if you're getting off on the idea of being smarter than whoever you're so jealous of that you have to make videos about it.

It makes the previous generation look even worse than that, though — the ones that are doing the selective editing because it makes them feel superior to make fun of These Kids Today.

+1

Thank you for saying that. The whole repetitive argument is so sad.

Exactly. You have to feel pretty bad about yourself to need somebody to kick around this much.

Fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing this.
