There are Grammys for jazz. It is just that the Grammys have literally over eighty awards that they give out and don’t have the time or desire to show all but the bigger categories on TV.

There should be more complaints about the Grammy nomination process. Selectively choosing and removing popular choices was designed to promote diverse slates but it is still such bullshit that any other awards would be raked over the coals for. One case that I guarantee was the work of the committee was Lorde’s

This is the kind of honest talk that would have really helped Hillary in the last election. I kind of love it. Yes, it will polarize Dems but that is always going to be there. Heck, a lot of Hllary supporters didn’t vote for Obama either.  The primary is always going to turn off a certain percentage of Dems because no

It is weird that the Beyonce Grammy loss that is often brought up is the one that Adele won. The real travesty was her loss to Beck at the 2015 Grammys- at least Adele had some solid hit singles from that album and hadn’t had her peak over a decade earlier.

I give them credit for offering the free option. Why wouldn’t someone give it a try if they don’t have to pay, unless you really hate commercials? Some folks do hate commercials that much, but I would rather save that $5-10 a month.

Just a note that Tiran Porter, a former member of the Doobie Brothers, is getting into the Hall with the band.  I think he is the only living black performer who will be in the Hall this year.

Yes, they definitely could have been more generous, given that only one living member of the band will enjoy the induction.

This treatment, which I’m not convinced is the real thing, still has some real flaws. First, as substantially lacking as Finn and Poe’s storylines in TROS were, this would have given them even less to do. And since this was apparently written with the idea that Carrie Fisher would have been alive to be in it, Leia

The Oscars are damn lucky that Cynthia Erivo got a nom for Harriet (wish it had been Nyong’o - sigh) or there would be no non-white nominees in the Acting categories. Jennifer Lopez and The Farewell are notable omissions here. Also interesting to me how super old the Supporting Actor nominees are with 56 year old Brad

Daniel Craig must be delighted to have a new franchise role that doesn’t require much stunt work and acting around explosions.  Perhaps they can get his wife Rachel Weisz to play a role in the sequel.

There was the low-budget Japanese film One Cut of the Dead from last year that got some positive attention, but in general J-horror has been in decline for awhile now.

A majority of Methodist leaders in the U.S. wanted to allow for individual churches to have freedom to decide on gay marriage and ordination but the non-Western Methodists wanted the Traditional Plan.  Global unity is a nice idea until you have to reckon with the fact that people from other countries often have very

The horror streaming service Shudder has featured a number of European supernatural dramas as well.

Probably the biggest queer subtext in Dracula would be the scenes with Dracula and Jonathan Harker.  Dracula doesn’t attack Harker directly because of Harker’s escape but he clearly was planning to and prevents his brides from doing so.

He did connect the world. It just turns out that the world is full of cons, bigots, and weirdos.

As someone who went on reddit to get the (pretty accurate) spoilers in the months leading up to release, the fans on that site didn’t like ideas like the return of Palpatine or the Kylo Ren/Rey stuff (which Rian Johnson did more than Abrams to set up) at all. I’m not sure that the media has a real understanding of

I wonder how much more attention this movie would have gotten if it wasn’t about rich and successful people navigating divorce between New York and L.A. It certainly isn’t the most relatable film, even if this subject is. I guess Baumbach wrote what he knew but he also denies that this movie is based off his own
