Bradley Cooper went through a decade of mostly thankless roles like this before he broke through as a star. I actually respect that. Many actors can’t afford to be too choosy.

Keep the minimums to preserve what dignity figure skating has. I love the sport but it is hard to take something seriously as an athletic endeavor if the best athletes in the field are tiny children.
You use the Lorraine Cuevas case as a sad example but I defy anyone who clicks on the link to the story about her to feel sorry for her. The smirk on her photo alone should do it. And the jail time (of which she served only a quarter of the sentence) resulted in her kids barely missing school the next year.
True, there are those who will dislike her because she wasn’t progressive enough and represents the abuses of law enforcement. And her being a liberal from San Francisco will turn off a lot of others. I can’t see her finding a way to victory easily.
I wish Liam Nelson would fight large animals (tigers? bears?) every January.
Getting more information can make you more paranoid if you are not skilled in sorting out coincidences and statistics. There are some compelling personal stories out there of people who wrongly claim adverse effects from vaccines and there are the small minority of cases that are genuine catastrophic reactions.…
If it is Tiafoe (very unlikely he will win the Open, much as I like him) or Nadal, please take off that shirt. Djokovic is pretty skinny lately so he can keep his on.
Fritz is playing Federer next and I suspect that will be his end and Harrison never makes it past the second or third rounds. But Tiafoe could make a good run of it with his draw. I hope Tiafoe can keep upping his game - he could be a superstar.
Honestly, with tensions over immigration in Australia, it doesn’t help that these three have names that mark their families as recent immigrants and are all disappointing (and Kyrgios and Tomic are real brats) compared to whitebread Aussie tennis legends like Rod Laver who were renowned gentlemen.
While The Social Network is a well-made film, the issues it brings up regarding Facebook and Zuckerberg are so different from the ones that have actually emerged as significant problems. Sorkin’s focus on Zuckerberg’s issues with dating women look especially silly now as the real guy has been married to his college…
I knew the Opelka-Isner match would have some tiebreaks and it didn’t disappoint in what will surely be the Open’s tallest match. Hope young Opelka’s return game will come to exceed Isner’s.
I really liked the books, even if they had flaws. I think Cronin is a terrific writer of horror/suspense but his literary aspirations (the worst is the long angsty Fanning and Kear origin sequence in the third book) hurt the books at times. This adaptation is disappointing because I doubt they will get to the future…
As a professor of Religion, the growing liberalism of American Muslims is an interesting recent story. For instance, a recent study had more American Muslims accepting of homosexuality than Evangelical Americans. It shows Islam potentially growing in a whole new direction. That said, there are some who grew up in the…
The idea that legalization is a simple solution for problems related to drugs has really been challenged by drugs like fentanyl. Trying to administer this drug in any controllable fashion would be at the least extremely challenging.
While a humorous gesture, I wonder if the organizer realizes that her Irvington Vinyl & Books business, which evidently includes a focus on “handmade zines,” is as much a product of/contributor to gentrification as that restaurant is.
The later Die Hard sequels made a lot of mistakes but getting rid of Holly was one of the biggest.
This is a truly sad thing for a fine champ but tennis is a hard sport and not everyone can make it into their late 30s like Federer and the Williams sisters. I remember living in the U.K. at a school full of tennis lovers and the pathetic Slam hopes they had in Tim Henman. Murray was a promising youngster when I…
I don’t know - is this really a worse assignment than, say, Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club?
I agree; there are certainly more embarrassing texts/love letters out there (Prince Charles’ letters to Camilla are an all-time classic of silly romance). I kind of feel bad for Bezos here, which I have never have before. Having your private love confessions made public against your will is awful - almost as much a…
I’m not saying this as a fan but Imagine Dragons isn’t an irrelevant band. They may be the only rock-ish band in recent years to achieve genuine success. Like them or not (some of their songs are fine to me), they may be the future of rock.
