I’ve been trying for the last 2 days to get method #2 to work without root on a Nexus 6P (want to use barclays app) and I don’t think it can be done. After flashing the zips the build.prop shows the changes but never shows them in the “About Phone” area. Could you confirm if you’ve done it or witnessed it done? If not…
