Correct. It’s an open-cycle engine so the fuel used to run the gas generator is exhausted separately outside that smaller nozzle.

Unburnt exhaust from the gas generator. This is an “open cycle” engine, which means the propellant (which looks like RP-1) used to spin pumps is expelled without being reused. As opposed to closed cycle engines, which integrate that exhaust into the main nozzle, it’s less efficient but much simpler.
Thanks, I hadn’t seen that article before. Although Cape launches can get vehicles into inclinations up to about 62 degrees.
On second examination I think you’re right. My guess is it’s probably a GSO signals intelligence satellite, in line with the other Delta IV Heavy launches from the Cape.
My guess is very heavy + high inclination. Spy satellites launched from the Cape tend to ‘dog leg’ their way into orbit. Spy satellites are of little use in a low inclination orbit, so they launch East from the Cape, then turn more North once over the ocean, which takes up a lot of delta-v. Pictures of this Delta IV…
You really have to move to a different neighborhood, man.
The number of gun owners who use their gun to defend themselves or their property is astronomically low. Statistically, the people most likely to have that gun used against them are: the owner (suicide or an accident), their spouse (domestic violence), or their children (accidentally). Would it be harder to deter a…
Best Picture has almost always been the definition of a flash in the pan. Oliver is the perfect example; the Academy though it was a better film than A Lion in Winter and Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet! Those people are idiots.

How are the barge landings silly and/or idiotic? They’re the only practical method for recovery of the first stage in high inclination or geostationary orbit launches.
Some people think that a head-on collision would have been better (just crushing the first one or two compartments); but I think it would have been worse. A 50,000 ton ship doing 20 knots coming to a dead stop would have caused massive structural damage along the length of the ship.
Tests have shown that if all the bulkhead doors had been opened, the ship would have sunk an hour quicker, and it would have been more likely to roll over in the process. The watertight compartments actually held the water back for a long time. The firemen were able to keep the water out of boiler room 4 and fight the…
The amazing thing is that even though they turned at the last moment and ordered full stop on the engines (which actually reduced their turning capacity), they likely still came with a few feet of missing it.
I’ve heard the theory about ramming the iceberg instead, which makes some intuitive sense, but still has one major problem: kinetic energy. A 50,000 ton ship going 20+ knots running into a solid object like an iceberg will do more than crush the front of the ship. At the least there would have been structural damage…
SSRI’s
Fire that burned for hours without being fought + building not rated to survive fire that long + structural weakpoints where the fire was + damage from the two gigantic buildings that collapsed right across the street = structural failure.
He doesn’t own any of those hotels or golf courses. For a ‘real estate developer’ he hasn’t really built anything. All he does is license the use of his name and collect royalties. He’s not a developer, he’s a marketer.
Trump is running for political office. He is, by definition, a politician.
It is actually true though that a President has not successfully nominated* a candidate to the Supreme Court in an election year in a very long time. That’s mostly because Justices mostly choose not to retire in election years, and the randomness of them not frequently dying in one
