Bad writing killed off Trek in the first place. A next-next generation ship series could work perfectly well with a decent team behind the scenes. (Which admittedly, isn't very likely to happen).

I can’t speak for everyone, and I never really cared for the old movies (heresy!) but I felt like the whole end of the movie just a flipped version of the end of Wrath of Khan was really lazy and pulled me out of it.
