Some people were hoping they’d do a different story with each season, rather than using the same characters for a continuing story.

It proves that you wealthy college boys don’t have the education enough to admit when you’re wrong.

Much as I love The Shining, Jack is crazy long before the hotel gets to him. Which is actually my biggest problem with the film. Nicholson is a menace from the word Go. No subtlety, no development, just an angry loon. Hot take, I know, but I don’t like his performance much.

Also the synth score is another good throwback.

One of my favorite opening sequences in recent history. It’s simple, the music fits perfectly, sets the tone for the time period, and it’s not too long.

Lets everybody calm down. If anything, pointing out where ST draws influence might (I hope) point some of the younger viewers towards seeking out these films. Owing a debt to genre films isn’t a crutch unless it’s done poorly, which certainly isn’t the case here.
