It’s more so the end of a cycle, or season, of content. Most games have some kind of very challenging optional content for players during those cycles, and you’d get into it once you were done with the story content, hitting the new level cap, upgrading the new equipment tier, etc, etc.

I think there’s a certain point where the developer is adding “more” just for the sake of “more”. That’s how I felt about how big Odyssey was compared to Origins.
