A bow hunter friend was at the range when a bunch of cops were testing a bulletproof vest. He went to his truck, grabbed his bow and shot clean through the vest. He said all their eyes got 3x bigger when they saw that happen and they all got nervous.

This is a rehash of the late 70's early 80's when Honda and Toyota caught the local car makers with their pants down and make a killing with small cars.

Either a short to ground, an intermittent fault in the starter or something weird like a fuel injector sticking open/leaking and filling a cylinder full of fuel (hydraulic lock).

It’s not so much the frame itself, it’s the fact that the entire shape is rebooted. It allows a much wider taller battery, the motor positions change, a monocoque chassis shaves a lot of weight (and then they doubled the battery weight so it’s still heavy as fuck). Dedicated EV chassis design allows for all sorts of

Telsa claims that the battery was ‘effectively submerged’. They likely drove through some deep water or the car was parked and got flooded.

That’s a sweet ride, but it needs a big battery option. For a few hundred pounds you could have a 15kWh battery and proper electric only range. This is actually necessary as some cities around the globe are switching to electric only for city cores.

Someone checked the ‘don’t crash into a fire truck’ box in Settings.

Well maybe after customer after customer saw $15,000 and up price adjustments at the dealers and that has caused everyone to flip off the dealer and leave. I know after I told my local dealer to go f**k themselves with pandemic price theft I won’t be returning.

That engine has a rear mounted oil pump driven by a timing belt that needs transmission removal every 100k to change it out.

The ladder chassis is old hat. You don’t build a flat 2d shape to be strong. Just look at any bridge with a large span. You use that 3rd dimension for bracing and make a stiff strong light structure.

GM has 150% of the range and 200% of the charging speed. Even GM’s base model battery has 400 miles of range vs 300 miles.

Promise the buying public a $40k and up truck, deliver a $80k and up truck...And they are surprised when people say fuck no.

Want to know why Canadians are usually so polite? Because we tried to cut in line once as a teenager and got our asses handed to us. Canadians will defend their politeness with fists, as god intended. You don’t carry a gun here, that is seen as cowardly.

EV swap are all about scoring junkyard deals and using affordable 3rd party control boards like from openinverter.com ($300 to control a nissan leaf motor for example). Much like boneyard ICE engines are the king of hotrods. Not everyone can afford a all new build on their old hotrod.

And will apple enable this on the iphone 14 pro (it has satellite connectivity)? We all know the answer to that, don’t we.

Fun fact: Insurance companies use the following numbers to gauge fire risk in cars.

So when is Gizmodo getting dark mode, huh? This website is AWFUL to look at.

Auto makers are banking on the public saying ‘oh, small cars are awful’. But I have news. Even a small shitbox electric car with air conditioning is still a lovely second car. It’s quiet, quick, smooth, low vibration, has lots of zip at low speed and most importantly in crowded cities is easy to park.

First, if you aren’t listing WHICH vehicles are failing, you are just generating clickbait. My guess, some old clapped out Nissan Leaf with an air cooled battery. Or maybe the F-150's abysmal battery/drivetrain cooling system is biting owners in the ass (see towing issues).
