The Aliens Omnibus editions out there have the stories. They were also adapted into the novels "Aliens: Earth Hive, Aliens: Nightmare Asylum, and Aliens: The Female War

The Dark Horse ALIENS Comics actually fleshed out the Colony Demise very well, even giving us a glimpse of Newts final loss of family (Her Brother). I highly recommend them if you enjoy the story, though the continuation of the story-line gets weird eventually. (not even remotely interested going into it)

I'd say it fattens the story up a bit and fleshes out Ripley's Grief more, but if you've only seen the theatrical cut, it does feel like some weight added. The sentry gun scene though has some massive tension that adds a lot. If the cut were up to me, I would have left the Amanda scene and the sentry scene in, but cut

The SLAP when the queen advances on her solidifies the fight in my mind as two Powerful Female characters starting a Brawl. Great review. I mean that sincerely. Too often I find myself at odds with A.V.Clubs movie reviews for one reason or another. But this hit on every reason why Aliens was such a amazing film. It is still the Gold standard, In my mind, of what an action film can be. Ripley unleashing her anger and fury in a way only
