The Volt has the advantage of an internal combustion engine to produce heat for the battery heater and the regular heater. Should the Mini E use battery power to run the battery heater?

@Ring of Feugo: My 2005 Legacy GT wagon is a great christmas sled. AWD for the snow and ice, plenty of room for presents, manual transmission to make the drive more entertaining, and turbo-charged engine that loves cold winter air.
