Heh. My brand spanking new 2024 Mazda CX-90 has

“Too complicated, would crash the car looking for one of those tiny buttons that all look the same.”

Having to take your eyes off the road is, was and always has been, a stupid, stupid idea. Touch screens should be outlawed for the safety hazard they are.”

I’ve been watching some very old Motorweek shows and they often comments as far back as the 1980s about the ease (or lack) of the use of radio and temperature controls.

Touchscreens are popular on phones because space is a premium, and the contrivances of the platform work well with the format. Also, you are always looking at the device you operate (and on most phones there are physical buttons for the few functions you need when you aren’t, like volume control for calls)

“This defeats the purpose of minimalism”

Oh, but you know exactly what would happen if Tesla themselves started offering the buttons, these same people would think it was the best thing ever.

The “geniuses” at Tesla need to understand that minimalism isn’t always good.

Radio volume and HVAC temp should be physical knobs. Trying to hit a touch screen when you’re bouncing down a road to adjust that stuff is effing stupid.

How much it cost to get a new “control unit port” (LMFAO!) for your Tesla? $2k + labor?

Tl;dr; “some people have different opinions from me.”

This Chinese guy made a panel of physical buttons connected to the control unit port in his Tesla. You have buttons for pretty much every major function. This device completely defeats the purpose of minimalism. What do you think?

I learned to drive in an ‘82 Fleetwood with the 4100. It’s hard to get enthused as a new driver when walking will get you there faster.

Years ago a NYTimes article spoke of a person who was sold a car that was literally two different bodies of the same model welded together.   So yeah, have your car inspected before purchase.

Yea on top of the whole sun load situation there the constant barrage of rocks and whatever else on the road. It was $400 cash to put in a windshield in our CX-5 can’t imagine what it would cost for this behemoth.

No, that’s in a different sketchy city, Pontiac, and is on Woodward Ave.

For liability/safety reasons, some mechanic shops try to avoid having random people go under the lift, or even into the work area. They should let you take it to a different shop to inspect it though.

In Maine, you can’t get a dealer license without having one. Though nothing says you have to allow a customer anywhere near it.

No, that’s an actual public road (closed for this of course) in Pontiac Michigan...look up “woodward avenue”.
