I seem to recall in drivers ed that you’re supposed to stop at the stop line BEFORE the crosswalk no matter what, and only after checking if it’s safe should you creep forward to attempt your right turn. Seems to me simply enforcing this rule would prevent all these problems. People rolling right into the crosswalk is

I’d add ban the bs left turn arrow as well,

Try that in Florida where almost every car has double-dark Limo tint.  You can’t seen anyone inside, never mind make eye contact

I mean look...just because he’s shorter than a 7 year old...

As to the left turn arrow, in many places without it, you won’t ever be able to make a left turn. The key is to have it change to a green light (or flashing yellow arrow in my state) so you have the option to turn left if traffic clears out, rather than only allowing left turns on a green arrow.  They have done this

I think they’re just summarizing the average interaction a pedestrian would ideally have with a right-turning vehicle.

I mean we could start by enforcing the laws we already have, ticket people who turn into an intersection when there’s a pedestrian in the crosswalk. And for that matter ticket people who blatantly run red lights and stop signs, or who drive on the shoulder, or who drive in the center median, or who use the crosswalk

Eliminating the left arrow? So one car can turn per light cycle at a busy intersection? Ever been ninth in line in the left turning lane? That’s a recipe for road rage.

As a pedestrian, I‘ve literally never had an issue with vehicles turning right on red. That's because I'm an intelligent human being who understands that it's important to make eye contact with the driver of that vehicle, or otherwise ensure that they are clearly not going to start moving when I step in front of them.

I mean, being 7 years old (comparatively) was Hammond’s entire deal for years, so yeah.  That checks out.

I will defend the left turn arrow. No it’s not warranted at every single intersection, but it is really necessary in certain spots where you would probably need to sit through 4 or 5 light cycles before you could even hope to get a gap.

Normally, I’d agree. But it seems like this article is yet another anti-car hit piece from this supposedly driving orientated magazine. Why do you hate cars and driving so much, Jalopnik?

People who drive dangerously already ignore traffic laws.  Imposing new laws won’t improve safety in the slightest.

Nah, leave it up to local municipalities to make their call. I’ve had countless hours of my life wasted yearly due to having to wait at intersections at red lights where absolutely zero cars passed through the intersection for the entirety of the light cylce as I was waiting for green. I’d add ban the bs left turn

Yea, better phrasing would have been. “The most popular version, a reboot of the original, was hosted by the trio...”

46-year-long running show... So, by your logic, Richard Hammond was hosting it when he was 7 years old? Hammond, Clarkson, and May were not the ones who “Originally hosted” it.

Top Gear Isn’t Canceled, For Now”

Nailed it.

Interesting car for $8,000.  But a solid ND for $18,000.

Looks like a 70's cartoon car.
