Aside from the reasons listed above, all of which are valid, part of the reason newer cars burn more oil is due to a combination of higher compression and lower friction pistons. Agreed. However Rivian has a few advantages that Tesla didn't. An experienced management, large corporate backing, and a new product that's not based off another ala Tesla Roadster.
