Agreed. I actually remember being relatively interested early on in the book, with the way it described the main character taking notice of the color red. But the character of the Giver is so preachy and boring and the message of the whole book is delivered with as much subtlety as a Ru Paul show.

I loved this book when I read it in 6th grade. In fact, I liked it so much that I begged my mom to take me to B&N to get "The River" soon as I finished it. I'd love to see more nostalgic articles about YA books from the 90s. Especially an Animorphs retrospective
