Like I said, that is not a difficult problem to solve. We already have two different tax regimes for diesel, basically taxed for road use and untaxed for off road use. Simply expand on that. If you are using diesel to make a living, you pay a much lower tax than if you are using it to roll coal.

Yeah, better leave the place to rot and spend 3x what’s paid in fuel excise taxes on extra vehicle repair due to shitty roads.

Part of the larger jump for diesel vs gas is a loss of refining capacity. Refining capacity dropped from covid, along with issues even before the pandemic. Diesel requires additional refining for reducing the sulfur content, and some of the supplies for those processes are feeling the effects of the supply change…

Ignoring the cost of producing the goods? And how much of the transportation cost is the cost of fuel allocated to that individual item?
