He’s certainly slipped a bit, but Maher remains just about the only host on TV that has actual conversations with people from multiple points of view, and who will call bullshit on his own group if he thinks it needs to be done. For that alone, he’s worth having on the air.
Okay, I’m pretty happy about this. Yes, he commits the unforgivable sin of pointing out when both the far right and far left are acting absolutely crazy instead of just the far right like he’s supposed to, but no one is perfect.
It is all Tesla’s fault. Damn, the husband is so brainwashed from drinking the Tesla kool=aid.
What? He doesn't strike me as a guy who takes himself too seriously.
I saw both Poor Things and KOFM. Emma Stone is much more front and center in her movie and her performance is very showy. Lily Gladstone’s performance is much quieter and for me impactful. However, it isn’t hard to see why Stone took home the Oscar. Nobody got robbed of anything.
“Robbing” is a strong and inappropriate word. It would have been awesome to see Gladstone win because I really loved her performance, but Stone’s was also really incredible, and a much bigger part of her film. The award was up for grabs especially between the two of them, and not for Gladstone to lose.
She does seem to have really good tone/pitch control singing at a low volume, which is hard IMHO.
So, I’m very much a Minus One supporter. Brilliant movie that transcended everything a Godzilla movie normally is. I think it deserve a Best Picture nod or at least Best Foreign Film. I’m glad it one for VFX, and the work they did was great on their budget.
I can take or leave the format where past winners gush about current nominees, but I do wish they would show clips of the nominated performances. If the whole point is to celebrate the movies, let’s see some movies!
Stone certainly has the leg up (pun!) over Gladstone by being a tour de force in Poor Thing, she carries the movie front and center. While Gladstone was a great revelation, she also part of the large ansemble of esteemed actors doing great acting in that movie. That dimmed the spotlight on her a bit.
The Oscars may not really mean very much but I am still over the moon that a Godzilla movie won one. Well deserved.
I actually watched the SotU address AND the GOP response and knew that SNL would have to mock the latter mercilessly. It was SOOOOOO overwrought and hilariously unhinged. I did not expect, however, that they’d bring in Scarlett Johansen who would absolutely murder the opportunity.
Sure but using the word “snubbed” gets clicks.
Sure, there were snubs (Lily Gladstone)
They could have mentioned that Cillian Murphy also tried to kill Batman.
Sarah Sherman sure is a sport.
If you didn’t see it before, I highly highly highly recommend trying to see the totality. It’s a completely different experience, not comparable to even a 99% partial eclipse. 1% of the sun is still incredibly bright. Seeing the total eclipse in 2017 was so oddly, surprisingly emotional, and almost indescribable in…
Trader Joe’s is having an awful lot of recalls lately... along with the quality of their stuff rapidly declining. It sucks.
Also, all the women just happened to be hanging out in that tiny house? They just kept coming and coming like an unending handkerchief. It made me laugh.
